After more than two decades of hard work, an international working group led by Prof. JIN 
Yugan (19372006) from the CAS Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology (NIGPAS) 
and his coworkers has finally convinced the world geological community that the stratotype 
sections for the base and internal boundary of the Upper Permian (Lopingian) Series about 250
 million years ago are located in China.
