Under the joint auspices of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry 
of Earth's Interior (IAVCEI), CAS, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and 
local government and organizations, an IAVCEI meeting on Continental Volcanism (IAVCEI 
2006) was held from May 15 to 18 in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong 
Province. Chaired by Prof. XU Gangyi from the CAS Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, 
the meeting brought together more than 180 scholars from 30 or so countries and regions.
